My Favourite Outfit: Farideh

In this series, I ask the contributor to share an image of their favourite outfit – maybe a pair of pants they wore every day, maybe a special party dress – and write about where they were in their life and why the outfit has such significance. Every Friday in November I’m featuring a post by a member of Rosie & the Riveters, a band of four women inspired by vintage fashion, The Andrews Sisters, Mahalia Jackson, and The Good Lovelies. Their album Good Clean Fun! came out last month and they are releasing their music video for Red Dress in early 2016. Today we welcome Farideh and her favourite dress.

Confession time. My favorite dress isn’t really my dress. That’s right, this little number belongs to my fellow Riveter, Allyson Reigh.

When on tour we often hit up the local thrift stores and second hand shops. We found this adorable dress on such an excursion about a year ago.

Allyson is an avid thrift lover; I have the attention of a 5 year old and can rarely shop for more than 5 minutes. When she came out of the fitting room, I secretly wished it would be mine but didn’t even try it on because I assumed it wouldn’t fit it for long (I was in my first trimester), plus Allyson looked amazing in it. I insisted she take it home with her.

This past spring, in a desperate attempt to find complementary outfits for a photo shoot, Allyson encouraged me to try it on…and I felt like a million bucks in it! And guess what? That’s me, 3 weeks before I gave birth to my daughter. If you’ve ever had a baby, you know how tiring, uncomfortable, and emotionally draining being pregnant can feel. Any dress that can make a 9 months pregnant woman feel good is a dress worth talking about!

Our band tries really hard to find and wear vintage or vintage-inspired outfits, but that isn’t always easy to do. It can sometimes be difficult finding cuts, colours, and fabrics that are functional and comfortable under hot stage lights while dancing!

This bombshell of an outfit isn’t that old – it’s actually from the 1980’s and made by CLUB FEMME. I know, right? Excellent brand name!

Fast forward to now: my daughter is 4 months old, this dress STILL looks fantastic and I feel amazing when I wear it.

The best part? Allyson gave me this dress!
