My Favourite Outfit: Sarah von Bargen
In this series, I ask the contributor to share an image of their favourite outfit – maybe a pair of pants they wore every day, maybe a special party dress – and write about where they were in their life and why this outfit has such significance. Today we welcome Sarah von Bargen. Sarah makes the internet a more focused, sales-making, well-written place. I found out about her many moons ago via Yes and Yes, her lifestyle blog which lets readers into the lives of people with fascinating experiences. Sarah has also been known to talk about feminism and classic literature. If you aren’t yet convinced that she is totally awesome, we clearly have different value systems. This is her favourite outfit.
Oh, the things this green sweater has seen. Professional wrestling matches. Both islands of New Zealand. So, so many graduate school classes. Baby goats. Approximately a million backyard bonfires.
My best friend and I both bought one of these sweaters from Target about eight years ago – mine’s green and hers is black. It’s perfect for that 40-60 degree in-between weather and I love that I can hide in the high neck if I’m feeling anti-social.
I love that this sweater is a little thick, a little bulky and not entirely feminine. I like pairing it with cuffed grey jeans and my old-school shell toe Adidas for outdoor adventures and slightly rugged endeavours.
Truth be told, I think its best days are behind it. I regularly de-pill it but its elbows are baggy and the neck won’t stand up the way it used to. My partner has taken to diplomatically questioning my commitment to my green sweater.
But I’m having none of it. I think it’s still got a few years left – there are more baby goats to cuddle and more islands to explore.
